Jack Doohan has claimed the Race Win in Round 18 at Snetterton, Norfolk this past weekend in the British F4 Championship.
Round 16 – Position 4
Doohan did well to finish P6, just half a second adrift of the fastest time of the day, in Friday’s Free Practice sessions, having been hindered by technical gremlins throughout.
The Red Bull Racing Junior Team Driver qualified P5 with a time of 1:51.594 and climbed one position in the race, just missing out on a podium spot.
Doohan had pulled off a brilliant move earlier in the race, squeezing past Sebastian Priaulx at Murrays and chased down Simmons until the chequered flag.
Round 17 – Position 14
The Reverse Grid for Race 17 meant that Doohan began the Race in 3rd.
Doohan had a good start and maintained his position but went for the overtake for P2 and lost out on the inside and dropped into P5.
The Australian moved up into P4 but braked late on the last turn and was caught by the driver behind braking harder and broke the front wing of the Number 33.
Doohan had to head into the pits for the Wing to be repaired and as a result, finished last in P14.
Round 18 – Position 1
Starting from P5, the Number 33 began the race on slick tyres and Doohan was able to pick up his first position on the opening Lap.
The Red Bull Racing Junior Team Driver continued to show his quick pace throughout the Race and took the lead on Lap 6, taking control of the Race and fending off his team-mate Dennis Hauger for the Race win.
Despite the win, Doohan remains 4th in Championship Standings and sits 2nd in the Rookie Cup.
Doohan will now turn his focus to Rounds 19-21 of the British Formula 4 Championship at Rockingham, Northants on August 11-12.
“I TRIED TO GET THE BEST START POSSIBLE, BUT I KNEW THAT STARTING ON THE OUTSIDE MEANT IT WOULDN’T BE AS GOOD OTHER DRIVERS. I WAS WATCHING EVERYONE GO OFF THE TRACK WHEN THEY WERE IN FRONT. PATRIK AND JOHNATHAN GOT CAUGHT OUT AT TURN ONE WHICH COST THEM DURING THE RACE AND I DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. I JUST FOCUSED ON STAYING COOL, STICKING TO MY MARKS AND NOT LETTING THE NERVES GET TO ME, AS I MADE MY WAY UP THE ORDER. I’M NOT THINKING ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE MOMENT. I’M JUST TAKING EACH RACE AS IT COMES AND HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING ELSE WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF.”
