Jack Doohan has finished 2nd in Round 11 and claimed his 5th rookie class win at Oulton Park, Cheshire this past weekend.
Round 10 – Position 5
Doohan finished with the 7th fastest time in Saturday’s Qualifying session and began Round 10 from the 8th row.
The Arden Racer did well to pick up a couple of places from his grid position to finish 5th in the first 15 Lap Race of the weekend despite lacking speed.
Round 11 – Position 2
The Australian claimed his 5th Rookie Class win of the year despite getting a bollard stuck in his nosecone on Lap 1 which, fortunately, fell off Doohan’s #33 car on the next lap.
Doohan produced some good lap times with speed found the night prior and was able to keep Kiern Jewiss at bay to cross the line in 2nd for a podium finish.
Doohan also set the fastest lap of the Race with a 1minute 24.515 seconds set at 94.81 miles per hour.
Round 12 – Position 6
Doohan started from 7th on Sunday’s Race, with the grid positions forming from the second fastest times in the Qualifying session.
The Red Bull Junior Team driver put on a fantastic wheel-to-wheel display with his teammate Hauger throughout the race and completed the rookie podium in 3rd.
Doohan has now moved into 3rd in the British F4 Standings and now also continues to lead the Rookie Cup Standings.
“WE CHANGED A COUPLE OF THINGS ON THE CAR AND FINISHED FIFTH IN RACE ONE. THEN WE WORKED HARD OVERNIGHT, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE DATA OF MY TEAM-MATE DENNIS HAUGER WHO WON THE RACE YESTERDAY. THAT DEFINITELY HELPED US IMPROVE FOR SATURDAY, UNFORTUNATELY WE DIDN’T GET THE WIN THEN, BUT I’M PLEASED WITH THIS SECOND PLACE. THE AIM WAS TO TRY TO GET THE LEAD AT THE START BECAUSE I KNEW IF I GOT INTO THE LEAD IT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO PASS. IF I KEEP ON GETTING THESE KIND OF RESULTS AND STAYING CONSISTENT, HOPEFULLY THE CHAMPIONSHIP WILL TAKE CARE OF ITSELF BOTH IN THE OVERALL AND ROOKIE CLASS STANDINGS.”
Doohan will now turn his focus to Rounds 13-15 of the British Formula 4 Championship at Croft, North Yorkshire on June 9-10.
