Jack Doohan has finished P17 & P22 at Round 8 of the Formula 3 Championship in Monza.
Race 1 – Position 17
Doohan finished P3 in Friday’s Practice session but was unlucky in Qualifying when the field was blocked up by several cars in the dying stages of the session. Some drivers were relegated for impeding the session but the majority of the penalties did not affect Doohan who finished in P18.
The Australian drove consistently for much of Saturday’s race, and soon climbed into P16 and then advanced further throughout the second half of the race to cross the line in P12.
However Doohan was later penalised after the race for overtaking his teammate before crossing the start/finish line after the Safety Car and was relegated 5 positions and classified as P17.
Race 2 – Position 22
Doohan made a good start from P17 on the grid on Sunday and gained several positions, but on Lap 2 he lost his front wing when he made contact whilst attempting to overtake another rival.
Doohan had to pit and rejoined the race a lap down on the rest of the field and he finished in P22.
“I made a good start on Sunday and gained a few positions. I then wanted to overtake someone on the outside. We made contact in the process and I lost my front wing. That was really frustrating. I bounced back after the pit stop, but was no longer able to show my full potential. Because I was a lap back, I was shown the blue flag on several occasions and had to allow the drivers behind me to pass. That makes it hard to judge those laps. I now hope to have another good weekend in Mugello.”
Doohan will now prepare for the ninth and final round of FIA Formula 3 Championship, which will run at Mugello, Italy on September 11-13.
