Silverstone success for Doohan 🥇🇬🇧
Sprint Race - P1
Following a difficult Qualifying session that left Jack Doohan in P7, the Australian was hoping to claim a podium with his second row start in the Sprint Race.
Starting from P4, Doohan found his rhythm as other drivers complained of overheating wet tyres and was in a class of his own once the rain had moved away.
With the track surface still wet, Doohan took P3 on Lap 5 and two more skilful overtakes in the ‘Village-Loop’ section gave him the Race Lead.
With a 0.9 second lead, the Alpine Racing Academy Driver claimed his first Formula 2 victory on Saturday at the Silverstone Circuit.
Feature Race - P9
Doohan began Sunday’s feature race from P7, but lost some positions of the start with wheel spin.
The Virtuosi Driver was running on an alternate strategy with hard compound tyre first, in hopes of a late safety car but unfortunately the strategy didn’t eventuate.
When Doohan took his stop the team had an issue with the right rear and he lost some time in the lane.
However, when Doohan rejoined the field his pace on the soft tyre was strong and he was able to claim some positions to finish in P9.
Doohan now sits 8th in the Formula 2 Championship Standings.
“Mixed feelings in Silverstone, it wasn’t too bad of a weekend with my first F2 Win but ideally I would have like Qualifying to go a bit better. The car was set up brilliantly and I was able to manage it in the drying wet conditions in the Sprint Race to get to the lead and held onto it until the end. On Sunday we ran the alternate strategy and ran long, hoping for a late Safety Car but unfortunately that didn’t happen. Now looking forward to this weekend!”
Doohan’s next round of the Formula 2 Championship will be at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg from 8-10 July.
