Second for Doohan at Red Bull Ring
Jack Doohan has finished P2 and P13 at Round 6 of the Euroformula Championship at the Red Bull Ring.
Race 10 - Position 2
Doohan qualified P7 for Saturday's Race but made up significant ground on the race start moving into P4.
A Safety Car was bought out for an altercation elsewhere and on the restart, Doohan held his position and instantly set about mounting a bid for P3 which he would claim in the following laps.
Doohan produced a terrific pass around the outside of turn 1 on lap 4 to climb into P2 and the Rookie lead before the chequered flag.
Race 11 - Position 13
Race 12 qualifying on Sunday morning produced a much-improved showing from Doohan with a P4 finish.
Doohan was edged back to P5 off the start and a slight moment mid-lap dropped him down to P8 place.
Then, at the last corner, things went from bad to worse after he ran wide and as he rejoined the front wing was torn away – becoming lodged beneath the front of his Dallara.
After pitting at the end of lap 2 for a new nose cone, Doohan eventually finished the race in P13.
Doohan remains 7th in the Championship before the lengthy eight-week summer break for Euroformula Open season.
"The weekend was okay, we’ve had better but definitely had worse. The main perk was that we were fast and we had speed. Throughout both practice sessions, we were topping the timing for the majority of them and the pace seemed really good. Struggled a little bit throughout Qualifying 1 which I wasn't sure why as everything seemed to be okay. Just overall performance was lacking. We found something for the race which was good, I then was able to make my way to P2, then try and catch Marino. I was able to close the gap down, but not enough. Qualifying 2 was average again, it should’ve been P3 but a red flag on my fastest lap meant it was P4. The race start I think I over prepped the rear tyres, and almost stalled on the grid but luckily didn't and only lost one place. I was then too eager to get the win and tried a move around the outside which ended up forcing me wide and subsequently ending our race as I had to box for a new front wing. The main positives were that even though I was half a lap down I was still able to set multiple fastest laps and knowing we did have the pace for the win in race 1. I’m looking forward to carrying this form into the second half of the season!"
