First F2 Podium For Doohan
Sprint Race - P6
After claiming Pole for the Feature Race, Doohan had a solid start to the Reverse Grid Sprint Race, maintaining his P10 starting position.
The Alpine Academy Driver pushed throughout the opening laps and had made his way up to P8 by the end of lap 2.
After later running under Safety Car for several laps, Doohan took his opportunity to manage his tyres and had a decent restart.
However, Doohan had worn tyres and decided to settle for P6, claiming valuable Championship points.
Feature Race - P2
Doohan had a perfect start off the line in Sunday's Race, defending his pole position and running at the front of the field for several laps following the start.
The Virtuosi Racing Driver took his stop on Lap 11 and rejoined mid-field, but once the pit stops cycle had completed he was back in-front.
Doohan was in the lead doing what he could to defend from Drugovich, but he lost the lead on lap 27 of 37.
Doohan crossed the finish line in P2, marking his first podium in the Formula 2 Championship after a tough start to the season which provided the Australian with valuable points.
"Mixed emotions, happy to be on the podium and get some points but when you start from Pole the objective is to win. In the end we had a great race but the Drugovich went the longer option and had quite good pace. We were strong compared to the rest of the field but not quite quick enough, will take the second place on the chin and work a bit harder to come back strong in Monaco next week."
Doohan's next round of the Formula 2 Championship will be at Monte Carlo from 26-29 May.
