Drama for Doohan at Jeddah
Sprint Race - DNF
Doohan had a tough start to the weekend, after being disqualified from the results of Qualifying for failing to supply the required 0.8 kg of fuel in parc ferme.
The Aussie had originally finished 3rd in Qualifying but was demoted to start from the back of the grid in both races.
Doohan made his Sprint Race start from 21st but had made his way up to 18th before Lap 2, when the Safety Car was released.
On the Lap 7 restart, the back of the field were bunched up and forced to slow down as the race leader maintained his speed. Drivers ahead pulled to the left to avoid the cars in front and Doohan did the same, but there were no open gaps to pull into and he unavoidably ran into the back of the Logan Sargent.
Doohan received a three-place grid drop for Sunday’s Feature Race, but his starting position did not change as he was already disqualified from Qualifying.
Feature Race - P9
Doohan began from the back of the field for the Feature Race at Jeddah, making a clean start and moving up to 17th on the opening lap.
The Virtuosi Driver took his CPS (compulsory pit stop) later in the race and rejoined in 9th, a position he would juggle for throughout the race.
Doohan charged through the remainder of the race to set the fastest lap on his way to claiming points for his 9th place finish.
“It was a disappointing weekend, I definitely thought we’re one of the fastest cars on track but we didn't get the results to show it. There’s still a long season to go and we know we have the pace. Looking forward to heading back to Europe and starting the season over there.”
