Doohan Races to Rookie Podium in Hungary
Jack Doohan has finished P16 and P7 at Round 5 of the Euroformula Championship in Hungary.
Race 9 - Position 16
Doohan qualified P8 for the opening race of the weekend, just over a tenth of a second short of the front row.
The Australian held his position from the start but on Lap 2, light contact in the braking zone for Turn 1 sent Doohan's Double R Racing car into a spin and he dropped into P17 overall.
Doohan managed to latch onto the tail of the group battling over P14 with just a couple of laps to run but ultimately had to settle for a frustrating P17 overall and P10 in the Rookie class at the flag.
A penalty for a driver ahead later moved Doohan up into P16 in a race which had promised much more.
Race 10 - Position 7
Doohan bounced back well on Sunday, carving his way through from P12 on the grid into a P7 result overall and P3 in the Rookie Class.
Doohan is now 7th in the Euroformula Championship Standings and 4th in the Rookie Standings.
"Race 1 was then disappointing as we had an okay start, but on lap 1 I went for a move and I didn’t end up working out so we finished last. Race 2 was slightly better but we had to start P12. I got a good start and then was able to make up 4 places on the opening lap. From then on in it was pretty stable and I was only able to make up one more position as it’s so tough to follow let alone pass around the Hungaroring. It wasn’t the weekend I wanted, but now I just have to regroup and prepare for a good weekend at the Red Bull Ring!"
