Doohan Qualifies on F2 Front Row
Jack Doohan has finished P11, P8 & DNF at the final round of the Formula 2 Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Race 1 - Position 11
Doohan made his mark early in the weekend by qualifying in P2, an impressive feat for the Red Bull Junior in only his second round in the category.
Doohan began the opening race in P9, as the starting grid reversed the Qualifying Top 10, and as the lights went out, Doohan made a clean getaway.
The Aussie fought hard against an experienced field throughout the 23 lap race and crossed the finish line in P11.
Race 2 - Position 8
Doohan made a strong start to the second race of the weekend from P11, moving up 2 positions in the opening laps.
The majority of the first half of the race was interrupted as the Safety Car was deployed on 2 seperate occasions.
Once the racing resumed, Doohan briefly leaped up into P7, but ultimately crossed the finish line in P8.
Race 3 - DNF
Doohan started the feature race on Sunday from the front row, but as the race got underway, he received significant pressure from the field behind him.
Unfortunately for the the Aussie, the #11 Car was forced wide on the exit of Turn 9 and when returning to the track, as left with no room and spun into the wall.
Doohan was unable to finish the race due to the damage to the car.
“Disappointing not to get a result in the feature race to finish the year off. Thank you to MP Motorsport for the opportunity of racing in the final 2 rounds, it was great experience to get my first taste of Formula 2. Looking forward to the break now before the 2022 season starts.”
