Doohan Impresses at Spa with Rookie Win
Jack Doohan has claimed his second Rookie Win and finished P4 overall in both Races at Round 4 of the Euroformula Championship.
Race 7 - Position 4
Doohan qualified P3 on Saturday, just 0.3 seconds shy of pole position, for the first race in Spa.
Doohan struggled off the start, was squeezed onto the grass and dropped back to P5, but once settled into the Race the Red Bull Junior was able to get back up to speed and challenged the two Volkswagen cars ahead, managing to pass one car to finish P4.
Doohan was 3rd on the Rookie Podium and the only HWA powered car in the top 8 while all others were VW powered.
Race 8 - Position 4
Doohan again qualified P3 for Race 2 but slipped back into P5 on the Race start.
Doohan profited from a dramatic collision on lap 3 at Les Combes when Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson tangled while disputing the race lead and both crashed out into the barriers, elevating Doohan into P3 overall and the Rookie lead.
The Safety Car cleared the track and resumed on the lap 5, where Doohan grabbed P2 with a sensational move shortly after the re-start.
Doohan was later edged to P4 with 4 laps to go which was still enough to seal the Rookie class win and moved from 8th to 6th in the overall Euroformula Championship Standings.
“I’m happy that we got valuable points for the Championship but also gutted not to get a podium in both races, head down for the next one now.”
