Doohan displays promising pace at Silverstone

Jack Doohan has finished P26 & P21 at Round 5 of the Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone.

Race 1 - Position 26

Doohan started the race weekend with a convincing qualifying session claiming his best finish after an intermediate fastest lap, Doohan qualified in P7.

The strong pace gave Doohan reason to hope for a successful race on Saturday, but the 17-year-old was unlucky yet again.

Doohan's front wing was damaged on the second lap, which forced him to make a pit stop and he couldn’t improve on P26.

Race 2 - Position 21

Doohan had a brilliant start on Sunday from P26, which saw him move up 4 positions to P22 on the start.

The Australian made a mistake on the Safety Car Restart and came off the track while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre, which saw him lose several positions.

From that point on Doohan was able to get back in his rhythm, claim his positions back and crossed the finish line in P21.

“I made a mistake while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre after the safety car restart in the race on Sunday. I came off the track and the car switched to safety mode. I need to apologise to the team for that because we really did improve the car. Even after my trip off the track the pace was good, although I didn’t have any DRS available. We will take the positive aspects of this weekend with us to Barcelona.”

Doohan will now prepare for the sixth round of FIA Formula 3 Championship, which will run in Barcelona, Spain on August 14-16.
