Doohan Claims Maiden Formula 3 Win 🏆
Jack Doohan has finished P7, P5, & P1 at the second round of the Formula 3 Championship in France.
Race 1 - Position 7
Doohan started the round strong, qualifying in P4 ahead of the three race weekend.
As carried out in the opening round, the grid for Race 1 was determined by reversing the Top 12 finishers from qualifying, therefore Doohan started from P9.
As the lights went out, Doohan would move ahead one position in the opening lap, before the virtual safety car was deployed shortly after.
When racing resumed, Doohan dropped to P9 on Lap 4 as Martins moved by, but the Aussie was able to re-gain the position when he raced past his teammate Schumacher later in the race.
The Aussie set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 18 and crossed the line in P8.
Doohan would eventually be elevated to P7 after Iwasa was hit with a 5-second penalty from an incident in the race.
Race 2 - Position 5
Doohan started in P6 for Race 2, a reverse grid set from the Race 1 results.
The #4 car managed to climb two spots through the opening laps, moving into P4.
Doohan would lose a place to Martins on Lap 7, and would make no further movement for the remainder of the race, coming home to finish in P5.
Race 3 - Position 1 🏆
Rain covered the French track for the start of the main feature race on Sunday, with 25 points on offer for the winner of the race.
Doohan lost one place when the lights went out, but looked comfortable in the greasy conditions after the opening laps passed by.
The Trident driver started to gather momentum as he picked off Novalak, Martins and Vesti through the first half of the race to move into P2.
As the race progressed, the track became dry as Doohan began to surge towards the leader Hauger ahead.
By Lap 15, Doohan had caught the Championship leader and swiftly moved past to take the lead position.
Doohan remained calm under pressure through the final laps to claim the chequered flag and take his maiden Formula 3 win.
"I am very happy with the result and very thankful to the team, to the engineers and the mechanics for giving me an awesome car. The conditions weren’t the easiest, but we managed them well and came out on top. I am very happy and I am now looking forward to the Red Bull Ring in just over a week."
