Doohan Claims Maiden Formula 3 Podium 🥈

Jack Doohan has finished P17, P8, & P2 at the opening round of the Formula 3 Championship at Barcelona.

Race 1 - Position 17

The race weekend started strong for Doohan, who claimed P2 in the only qualifying session of the round.

The starting grid for Race 1 was determined by reversing the Top 12 finishers from qualifying, therefore Doohan would start from P11.

The Trident driver dropped 8 places off the line as a result of a poor start, moving back to P19 after the opening lap.

Doohan managed to pass two cars throughout the 22 lap race, to eventually finish in P17.

Race 2 - Position 8

Doohan started Race 2 from his finishing result in the opening race, P17.

The Trident driver made a strong start off the line, gaining two places on the opening lap before the safety car was deployed shortly after.

As the race progressed, Doohan started to climb through the field, moving up into P12 by the end of Lap 12.

Another incident occurred on Lap 15, which further propelled the Aussie into P10.

Doohan gained two more places on the penultimate lap after the third major incident of the race, to finish in P8.

Race 3 - Position 2

The final race on Sunday was promoted as the feature race of the weekend, with full points on offer.

Doohan would start from P2 on the grid, as a result of his qualifying result on Friday.

As soon as the lights went out, Doohan received instant pressure from behind, as the field swarmed into Turn 1 .

The Trident Driver escaped unharmed from the highly contested opening lap, however he was unable to hold his starting position, dropping back to P4.

Doohan quickly started to make amends, as he began to work towards Martins ahead in P3, eventually moving past on Lap 9.

Three laps later, Doohan made his way through to P2, as he picked off Nannini down the home straight.

The 18-year-old held his nerve for the remaining laps to cross the line in P2 and claim his maiden Formula 3 Championship podium.

"Pretty happy to claim my first Formula 3 Championship podium during the feature race of the weekend. Thanks to Trident Team for all their efforts over the round, the guys have done a mega job. Unfortunately I didn't get results I wanted in Race 1 & 2, but I'm so happy to get the P2 result in Race 3 and head to France with a lot of confidence."
