Doohan Battles at Baku 🇦🇿

Sprint Race - P11

Doohan finished P11 in the qualifying session and began the Sprint Race from the 6th row, picking up a position by the end of the opening lap.

Unfortunately, the Australian was forced to stop on lap 5 when he made contact with another car and damaged his front wing while trying to make a pass.

Doohan tried to remain on track with the damage, however it proved too great and he was forced to stop.

The Virtuosi Racing Driver made some late passes but P11 was the best result Doohan could manage.

Feature Race - P13

Doohan began the Baku Feature Race from P11 and was making his way up towards the front in the later half of the race.

Doohan was sitting in P5 when he had contact with Lawson and was handed a 5 second time penalty.

The Virtual Safety Car was released and the Race was finished under Safety Car, however, with the field bunched together and the time penalty, Doohan finished down in P13.

“It was a difficult weekend in that we didn’t get the results we wanted. Going into the weekend it was known that the team would most likely struggle at but I was hoping we could still achieve good things. After Practice I was positive we could compete for pole but Qualifying was a strange session and it just didn’t come together for us.

“The Sprint Race was a tricky one - I lost a front wing trying to make a pass, I tried to stay out for a few laps and hope it would hold on but it didn’t and I had to pit so it was a disappointing race.

“In the feature race the pace was strong, managing the race well and got up to 5th, I was about to make a move but I was given a 5 second penalty. Was a very difficult one to take since the race ended under Safety Car and I ended up losing 8 positions and was pushed down to 13th. All we can do now is work even harder for the next rounds and put ourselves back into contention."

Doohan’s next round of the Formula 2 Championship will be at Silverstone from 1-3 July.
