Sprint Race - P4

Doohan finished P5 in Qualifying but was promoted to the second row as a driver ahead of him in the session was penalised.

With the grid reversed for the first Race, Doohan began the 21-lap sprint from P7 and moved up a position in the opening laps.

The Virtuosi Racing Driver crossed the finish line in P5 but a penalty to a podium finisher improved Doohan’s result too P4.

Feature Race - P5

Doohan began the feature race on Sunday from P4 and had an amazing start, shooting straight into the lead.

Unfortunately Doohan couldn’t hold his lead into Turn 6 and dropped to P2.

Doohan stopped on Lap 13 to try and undercut the Race Leader but he had a slow stop, losing 2 positions on track as a result.

The Australian rejoined in P8 in-front of Pourchaire but he couldn’t defend on cold tyres and dropped to P9.

Despite heading into a spin while avoiding contact in the later half of the Race, Doohan was able to race up to P5 by the chequered flag and claim valuable Championship Points.

As a result of his solid weekend in France, Doohan has moved up to 6th in the Standings.

“Amazing start in our Feature Race, it was good to get P1 but just couldn’t hang onto the lead. My first stint was good, but unfortunately had a slow stop which cost us 3 seconds and 2 positions. I had a go in the chicane and got squeezed a little, didn’t want to make contact so I went over the inside kerb and spun. I kept pushing but over-heated my tyres and put them into a bad window. Luckily we still managed to finish P5 and get decent points so happy for that, but still disappointed to miss the opportunities we had.”

Doohan’s next round of the Formula 2 Championship will be at Budapest, Hungary from 29-31 July.
