Jack Doohan has finished P3 in a tough weekend at the Knockhill event of the British Formula 4 Championship.
Round 22 – Position 3
Doohan secured honours amongst the rookie drivers having been unable to find a way ahead of Pasma for P2, although it wasn’t for a lack of effort on behalf of the young Australian.
Although Doohan got to within two-tenths of a second of Pasma on the final lap, he was just too far back to make a move for position and finished the opening Knockhill Race in P3, just 1.461s from the leader.
“IT WASN’T THE RESULT I WANTED, BUT I’M HAPPY WITH P3 AND TOP ROOKIE. THE PACE WAS SO CLOSE BETWEEN THE TOP THREE AND I TRIED A FEW TIMES TO GET AHEAD OF PASMA BUT COULDN’T MAKE A MOVE STICK. THERE WERE A FEW TIMES WHERE HE HAD TO DEFEND AND ON THE LAST LAP I COULD SEE HE WAS LOOKING IN HIS MIRRORS BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO MAKE A MOVE WITHOUT DOING SOMETHING STUPID.”
Round 23 – Position 9
Starting P4, Doohan attempted to pass for P3 but slight contact with Jewiss as he turned into the corner tipped the #33 into a spin that dropped him to the rear of the field, rejoining in P9 and eventually finishing there.
Round 24 – Position 6
Starting P3 based on second-fastest grid times, Doohan became involved in a first-lap spin with team-mate Priaulx.
Doohan ended up with sixth place having set the fastest lap on his recovery through the field and remained 4th in the Overall Championship Standings but dropped to 2nd in the Rookie Cup Standings.
Doohan will now turn his focus to Rounds 25-27 of the British Formula 4 Championship at Sliverstone, Northants on September 15-16.
