Jack Doohan has claimed the Rookie Cup and finished 5th Overall in the British F4 Championship at the Brands Hatch GP in Kent.
Round 28 – Position 8
Doohan qualified P9 with a time of 1:26.668 at the final Brands Hatch Round of the British F4 Championship.
The Australian headed into the event 15 points ahead of Hauger in the hunt for the Rookie Cup but his P8 finish in the opening Race cut the gap to 12 points.
“IT’S BEEN A DIFFICULT DAY. WE DIDN’T HAVE THE PACE IN QUALIFYING AND I STRUGGLED WITH A LACK OF GRIP IN THE RACE. DENNIS HAS DONE A GOOD JOB BUT WE HAVE WORK TO DO TONIGHT TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO TO IMPROVE THINGS AHEAD OF THE TWO RACES TOMORROW.”
Round 29 – Position 8
The Red Bull Junior Team Driver started P8 for the second race of the weekend and had another tough race and was forced to fight back from a brief trip off track to finish where he began.
Doohan claimed the fastest lap of the Race with a Doohan 1:27.483 at 100.13miles per hour.
“I HAD A MIS-SHIFT ON LAP TWO INTO TURN SEVEN AND RAN WIDE SO I LOST GROUND TO DENNIS. THE RACE WAS OVER FROM THERE REALLY IN TERMS OF THE RESULT BUT WE FOUND SOMETHING OVERNIGHT AND THE BALANCE IN THE CAR WAS A BIT BETTER THAN YESTERDAY. WE HAVE TO WORK FOR RACE THREE IF WE WANT TO GET THIRD IN THE STANDINGS AND I’LL DO MY BEST TO BEAT DENNIS FOR THE ROOKIE CUP.”
Round 30 – Position 7
Starting P9 Doohan had another tough Race and his P7 result demoted him one position in the standings, finishing 5th place in the British F4 Championship by just a point.
Doohan was able to hold onto his Rookie Cup lead, winning the title by 15 points.
Doohan also received the prestigious Joe Tandy Memorial Trophy, given to whom the championship organisers deem to have made the biggest impression on the championship and who they believe has improved the most over the course of the season.
“WE HAVEN’T HAD THE STRONGEST WEEKEND BUT HAVE DONE WHAT WE NEEDED TO DO TO WIN THE ROOKIE CUP. WE MADE PROGRESS ACROSS THE WEEKEND AFTER A TOUGH START TO IMPROVE THE CAR BUT IT’S GOOD TO END UP AS ROOKIE CHAMPION. IT’S BEEN A TOUGH SEASON WITH DENNIS AND PAAVO AT THE FRONT OF THE ROOKIES AS WE HAVE ALL BEEN SCORING GOOD POINTS AND IT WAS HARD TO MAKE UP FROM ANY DNFS. IT’S GREAT THAT I’VE ENDED UP ON TOP.”
